We recorded this
song live at ArtSpring,
a two hundred and thirty seat theatre on Saltspring
Island, BC,
on Canada's westcoast, as a follow-up to an amassed,
thousand voice choir that assembled this past October 24th
under the organizational umbrella of local advocacy group
PeaceWorks, at Saltspring's GISS
(Gulf Islands Secondary
School) gym.
What you'll hear is an iteration of the song originally sung
on the UN's 59th birthday. The choirs who congregated and
sang on the 24th of October last didn't get a unified
feeling about the performance, as we were scattered about
the gym in clumps, and so we reconvened at ArtSpring
on February 20th of 2005, paid a toonie each, and did a few
takes of this song. Marv Coulthart gave us the lighting we
needed, I led a great horde of vocalizers, ranging from 4 to
84 in ages, through the song whilst flailing appropriately
on a 1952 Martin D-28 six string guitar, strung with John
Pearse mediums, and Dave
Davies
recorded us on an Adat through a whack of AKG 1000-Cs and
one AKG 40-50 for my voice and guitar.
